HB1826 - BAD Bill

Bill Title: Removing party preferences from the ballot and voters' pamphlet

Committee: State Government and tribal RelationT
Companion Bill: none

Bill Summary:

  • AN ACT Relating to removing party preferences from the ballot and 1 voters’ pamphlet; and amending

What the Bill says:

  • There shall be no partisan positions stated in voter pamphlets regarding candidates preferences for party.

Our Summary Opinion:

  • Telling the voters less information is never a solution to electing the right people to office. This is a complicated enough state with multiple laws which are different for partisan vs non partisan elections. The state constitution addresses the partisan vs non partisan issue. This law should not be passed without considering major changes to other laws and the state constitution first.
