Bill Title: Creating a Washington state department of housing.
Committee: House Committee on Housing
Companion Bill: NONE
AN ACT Relating to creating a Washington state department of housing; creating new sections; and providing an expiration date.
What the Bill says:
What this bill does is seperate Housing from Commerce and creates a new branch of government. It recommends coordinating with a “consultant” for the needs statewide regarding housing and implementing laws or regulations accordingly. It also creates a State Based Landlord/Housing program using state funds to buy housing and expand the rentals for affordability. So the state will become the landlord and tax dollars will be used to support even more people who the department will determine qualify for government assistance. How will this be paid for?
Our Summary Opinion:
While the intent is heartwarming the expense and over reach are fraught with probable mis-steps and the encroachment into government ownership is a huge step towards socialism which will necessarily be paid for on the backs of private property owners who are NOT tax exempt like government properties are thus risking further financial stress on those individuals left paying the bill.
