HB 1902 - BAD Bill

Bill Title: Enhancing requirements for the purchase or transfer of firearms.

Committee: Civil Rights and Judiciary
Companion Bill: SB 6002

Bill Summary:

  • AN ACT Relating to enhancing requirements for the purchase or  transfer of firearms by requiring a permit to purchase firearms,  specifying standards for firearms safety training programs, and specifying circumstances where a firearm transfer may be delayed;

What the Bill says:

  • It will require you to get a permit to purchase absolutely every firearm you want to buy. It will delay your purchase but more importantly it will obstruct your 2nd amendment right to own a weapon.

Our Summary Opinion:

  • It is unconstitutional both at the US federal level and Washington State level. Our state is NOT allowed to keep a registry of guns and gun owners. So either they are going to violate that constitutional amendment in our state constitution or they are going to waste a lot of time and money permitting every single purchase individually. Currently you do not need permission to buy a gun… don’t let them make that change to your rights!
Status: The house bill had a hearing on January 16th, the senate has not scheduled a hearing as yet.
