HB 1504 - BAD Bill

Bill Title: HB 1504 Enhancing public safety by requiring financial responsibility to purchase or possess a firearm or operate a firearm range.

Committee: Civil Rights & Judiciary
Companion Bill:

Bill Summary:

  • AN ACT Relating to enhancing public safety by requiring financial responsibility to purchase or possess a firearm or operate a firearm range; amending RCW 9.41.090; reenacting and amending RCW 43.84.092 and 43.84.092; adding new sections to chapter 9.41 RCW; adding a new section to chapter 43.24 RCW; prescribing penalties; providing 5 effective dates; and providing an expiration date.

What the Bill says:

  • The bill mandates a $25,000 per weapon deposit into the state for the possession of every weapon owned or get insurance to cover liability or a bond.

Our Summary Opinion:

  • There is no known insurance policy for the individual gun owner on the market. Currently there is no known bond program either. This is the state of Washington confiscating funds from people and holding those funds indefinitely. This is a law which will make the average law abiding citizen a felon when they do not register their guns and pay the $25,000 per weapon deposit. This bill will discriminate against law abiding moderate to low income persons violating their right to bear arms when they cannot afford this atrocious fee. This should be illegal and unconstitutional. Urge a NO vote!
Status: Scheduled for public hearing in the House Committee on Civil Rights & Judiciary at 8:00 AM February 5th
