HB 1203 - BAD Bill

Bill Title: Prohibiting the sale of certain tobacco and nicotine products.

Committee: Consumer Protection & Business
Companion Bill: SB 5183

Bill Summary:

  • AN ACT Relating to protecting the health of all Washingtonians by ending the sale of certain tobacco and nicotine products, including products with flavors and video games; amending RCW 70.155.020, 70.155.100, 70.345.070, 70.345.180, 82.25.005, and 82.26.010; adding a new chapter to Title 70 RCW; and prescribing penalties.

What the Bill says:

  • It bans all cigarettes’ that are flavored including menthol claiming that the flavored tobacco entices youth to smoke.

Our Summary Opinion:

  • A prohibition on the rights of adults . It is already against the law for persons under 18 to smoke so this is not about the kids. This is about control of adults. You can’t smoke cigarettes but you can smoke marijuana and they refuse to further restrict Fentanyl through criminal penalties. You can’t make this stuff up folks. This is insane over reach.
Status: A hearing is scheduled in the Consumer Protection & Business Committee on January 31st @ 8 am.
