AN ACT Relating to promoting inclusive learning standards and instructional materials in public schools; amending RCW 28A.150.230, 28A.320.230, 28A.655.070, 28A.710.040, and 28A.715.020; adding a new section to chapter 28A.345 RCW; adding a new section to chapter 28A.310 RCW; adding a new section to chapter 28A.300 RCW; and creating a new section.
What the Bill says:
It claims that minorities by race, religion, sex, sexual preference and etc are less interested in learning if they do not relate personally to the material presented. Then it sets up a state based education curriculum committee to recommend materials and courses to be taught in schools which is “equity, and inclusivity” focused. It specifies that include LGBTQ studies. Then it says that the local school boards should do the same and it requires a mix on the “citizen council” as this ” The committee may include parents at the school board’s discretion: PROVIDED, That parent members shall make up less than one-half of the total membership of the committee. (b) School districts must provide reasonable notice to parents of the opportunity to serve on the committee and for terms of office for members of the instructional materials committee.
Our Summary Opinion:
This bill seriously interferes with parental rights and goes so far as to ensure that parents cannot be on equal footing by forcing them into the minority status on these boards! It alters the focus from reading, writing and arithmetic to sexuality in ALL classes being taught.
